Adult Sailing program

​The Basic Cruising course will provide novice sailors with the necessary skills to safely day cruise in local waters in moderate winds. 

You will practice as both skipper and crew aboard our 25’ fixed-keel sailboat. The skills you will develop will enable you to sail a boat up to the 30 foot range safely in most conditions. 

Receiving the Basic Cruising Standard certification is the first step in more achieving more advanced certifications such as Coastal or Offshore Cruising standards. With continued practice and experience you will improve your skills and your confidence. No prior experience for this course is needed.

​This 18-20 hour course, delivered over 4 weeks, is divided into two parts:

Afloat Skills  (practical) during which you are given instruction and demonstrate your sailing ability at the helm and on the water.

Ashore Knowledge (theory) during which you learn sailing theory, rules of the water, and terminology.

Cost: $548.05 includes taxes
• Text book and other printed material are included.

 

Dates - Courses are scheduled during the months of June, July, and August.

Dates and times are chosen to best accommodate the students and instructors.

On successful completion of this course, you are provided with official recognition from Sail Canada with a logbook and proficiency seal.
